Rutgers-Newark Men's Soccer Tally 17 Shots But Falls to Drew, 2-0

MADISON, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders men's soccer team suffered their first loss since mid-September this evening when they fell 2-0 to Drew University in non-conference action. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 5-4-3 while Drew improves to 10-1-1.

As a team, Rutgers-Newark tallied 17(7) shots four more (14) than Drew, however it was Drew that found the back of the net twice. After both squads went into the locker room with the scored level at 0, Drew came out and received a bit of luck. Christian Andrach made a save to keep the Rangers off of the board, however, his save would bounce off of his own defender and find its way into the goal.

Rutgers-Newark kept the pressure on, which led to a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, but the Scarlet Raiders were unable to capitalize on those opportunities. A penalty kick was awarded to Drew in the 77th minute and Kevin Kiernan converted from the spot to double Drew's tally. Despite the constant attacks, the Scarlet Raiders weren't able to break through and find their first goal of the game. For just the second time this season, the Scarlet Raiders were held without a goal.

Up Next:
The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday, October 8 when they travel to Ewing, NJ to take on The College of New Jersey in an NJAC bout at noon.
