Catania Headlines NJAC Awards

NJAC RELEASE

PITMAN, NJ
| For the second year in a row, senior forward Franco Catania has been named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Year.

Catania led the Scarlet Raiders to a 4-2-3 NJAC record this season while leading the team with 16 goals. His 16 goals this season brought his career tally to 61, making it the 3rd highest total in Division III history and the most all-time in the history of Rutgers University-Newark. To start the season, Catania earned NJAC Player of the Week three times in a row which also earned him September ECAC Player of the Month for the first time in his career. Catania finished 12th in the nation with 16 goals and 17th in total points with 35.

Joining Catania on the First Team All-NJAC squad was Joe Alba, who for the first time, made the list. Jonah Dias and Marlon Rodriguez were named Second Team All-NJAC.

Alba played and started in 16 games this season for the Scarlet Raiders and tallied one goal and one assist. Alba's influence on the pitch isn't measured in stats but by his presence on the field. Alba will always find the correct pass to set up a goal scoring opportunity after winning the ball in the midfield.

Dias and Rodriguez were dominant this season on the back line for the Scarlet Raiders. Both of the defenders possess the capability of adding to the attack in the final third. Dias notched four goals this season while Rodriguez tallied a goal and an assist. Dias was especially deadly off of set pieces whether he was standing over the ball or on the opposite end. Rodriguez dazzled opposing players with his skill on the ball and put pressure on their defense as an extra attacker. Defensively his speed made it hard to get by him coupled with his defensive skill.
