#RUNMBB Offense Stalls Against #8 WPI

WORCESTER, MA | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team dropped their second non-conference game to start the season after falling to #8 Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), 57-39. The Scarlet Raiders fell to 0-2 while WPI improved to 2-0.

The Scarlet Raiders men's basketball team was held to just 16 points in the first half. Newcomer Tony Godwin paced the Scarlet Raiders with 9 points in the game and eight rebounds while Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd finished with seven.

Travis Miles brought the Scarlet Raiders within one early on, giving Rutgers-Newark five points. Once the Scarlet Raiders hit that mark, their offense stalled and were held without a basket for 11 minutes. Levi Holton broke the scoreless drought with a layup and ignited the Scarlet Raiders' offense as the first half came to an end. Rutgers-Newark used a 7-2 run to cut their deficit down to 12 as they went into the locker room.

In the second half, WPI extended their lead to 16 before Godwin helped the Scarlet Raiders cut the lead down to 11 after a 3-point basket. WPI didn't let the Scarlet Raiders hang around for long as they eventually pushed their lead back out to 18 which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.
