#RUNMSOC Cruises to 8-0 Win Over Hunter College Behind Kat's Hattrick

NEWARK, NJ | Aslan Kat netted a hattrick as the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team cruised to a 8-0 win over Hunter College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament on Sunday evening. The win improves the Scarlet Raiders to 9-6-6 while Hunter dropped to 8-9-2. 

Catania wasted no time finding the back of the net, scoring in the first two minutes, as he took a pass from Esteban Hidalgo and hit a low shot that beat Matthew Heimowitz. The second Rutgers-Newark goal didn't come for another 20 minutes as Hidalgo collected a goal to double their tally off of a pass from Jonah Dias. The Scarlet Raiders kept the pressure on the Hawks which led to Catania scoring his second of the game off of a cross from Patrick O'Dwyer. 

Rutgers-Newark won a free kick just outside the 18-yard box setting up what would be the fourth goal of the half by the Scarlet Raiders. Joe Alba stepped over the ball and curled the free kick in the left netting to send the Scarlet Raiders into the half with a healthy 4-0 lead. 

Out of the break the Scarlet Raiders fielded a new squad that got to action immediately. Aslan Kat was first to stamp his name into the scoresheet with a goal 15 minutes into the second half. Shortly after, Daniel Velazquez scored a highlight goal from Erick Morales for what would be his first collegiate goal. Kat doubled his tally just a minute later to increase the Scarlet Raiders' lead to 7-0 over their opponents. With just four minutes to go, Kat completed the hattrick to bring his season tally to five on the year.

The Scarlet Raiders will now move on in the ECAC Tournament which will be decided in the coming week.
