Odom Barnes' Career-High Not Enough to Overcome Marywood

SCRANTON, PA | Ebony Odom Barnes scored a career-high 26 points, however, the Scarlet Raiders women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season this evening, 72-61, to Marywood. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 2-1 while Marywood improves to 2-1.

Rutgers-Newark got off to a slow start, falling behind 12-3 halfway through the first quarter. Buckets by Elisha India Cross and Odom Barnes cut the lead down to four. The Scarlet Raiders kept battling and eventually go the themselves within two before the end of the quarter. Marywood regained their momentum in the second quarter which allowed them to balloon their lead out to 14 before the teams headed to the locker room.

A slow start plagued the Scarlet Raiders in the third quarter, however, Jaielyn Alston and Syncere Lambert gave each picked up points to help swing momentum in their favor heading into the final stanza. Sanaa Brodie helped the Scarlet Raiders bring the game back within single digits with a jumper in the paint. Rutgers-Newark tried to build off of that and finish the comeback but had the door slammed in their face as Marywood would made sure to pick up their second win of the season.
