Women's Basketball Falls in NJAC Opener to Ramapo

MAHWAH, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team opened New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play this evening against Ramapo College. The Scarlet Raiders fell in their opening conference game, 79-44, and dropped to 2-2, 0-1 on the year while the Roadrunners improved to 5-0, 1-0. 

Ebony Odom Barnes and Syncere Lambert paced the team with 12 points each while Kaiel Maynor pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. The Scarlet Raiders were held to a season-low four points in the opening quater of play as Ramapo scored 14 points. Rutgers-Newark rebounded from their first quarter blunders and tallied their highest quarter of the game with 14 points. Behind a jumper from Maynor, the Scarlet Raiders brought themselves within 10 before Ramapo responded and stretched out their lead to 21. 

Out of the break the Roadrunners scored 23 points, their highest of the game, and held Rutgers-Newark to 13 points. Elisha India Cross cashed in on a layup before the end of the third to cut the lead down to 28. Ramapo kept their foot on the pedal and held the Scarlet Raiders to 13 points once more as the Roadrunners remained unbeaten.
