Slow Second Half Dooms Women's Basketball Against Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team continued their road adventure this evening when they took on Brooklyn College in a non-conference bout. The Bulldogs topped the Scarlet Raiders 83-59 to improve to 2-3 while the Scarlet Raiders fell to 2-3.

Ebony Odom Barnes and Sanaa Brodie paced the Scarlet Raiders with 18 and 16 points, respectively. The same duo ruled the boards, recording 12 and 11 rebounds to pace the team.

Rutgers-Newark came out strong against the Bulldogs and tallied a powerful 23 points to take a 23-22 lead headed into the second quarter. After trading points to open the game, the Scarlet Raiders' defense slowed down Brooklyn's offense to go on a 10-0 run to put them up 15-9. The Bulldogs wouldn't stay caged for long as they came running back and hit a three pointer with just seconds left on the clock to come within one of the Scarlet Raiders.

With the momentum switching to the Bulldogs in the second stanza, Brooklyn took the lead and eventually jumped out by five. The Bulldogs kept exploiting the three-point line and stretched their lead out to 10 before Elisha India Cross hit a deep bucket of her own to send the Scarlet Raiders into the locker room down seven.

Out of the break, the Scarlet Raiders struggled offensively and scored eight points while Brooklyn's offense kept rolling and tallied 22 points. The Scarlet Raiders tried to erase the deficit in the fourth but were too far behind to complete the comeback.
