Women's Basketball Unable to Keep Up With Kean

UNION, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark women's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game to Kean University this afternoon, 101-60. The 100+ points is the most allowed by the Scarlet Raiders since a 103-40 loss to Rowan during the 1998-99 season. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 2-4, 0-2 while Kean improves to 4-3, 2-1.

The Cougars stunned the Scarlet Raiders in the first quarter, scoring 29 points while holding Rutgers-Newark to just 9. The Scarlet Raiders rebounded in the second quarter with 13 points, however, Rutgers-Newark wasn't able to slowdown Kean's offense.

Sanaa Brodie and Lourdes Marasigan paced the Scarlet Raiders in scoring, registering 18 and 17 points, respectively. Ebony Odom Barnes recorded another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Out of the locker room, the Scarlet Raiders looked renewed as they scored their highest tally of the game, 22. The trio of Marasigan, Odom Barnes, and tried to lift the Scarlet Raiders back into the game but Kean remained in control as they had an answer for whatever the Scarlet Raiders threw at them. In the fourth, Kean kept their well oiled machine going and tallied 25 points while the Scarlet Raiders tried to keep up with 16 of their own.
