Men's Basketball Falls in Hoboken to Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ | Jordan Salisbury and Tyrone Bowens paced the Scarlet Raiders with 13 points each, however, Rutgers-Newark dropped a non-conference bout to Stevens Institute of Technology, 72-56. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 1-5 on the year while Stevens improves to 2-4.

Through the opening 10 minutes of play, the Scarlet Raiders saw themselves trailing by 15 after Conor Coffey converted a jumper. After a 30 second timeout, Bowens broke the Scarlet Raiders' five minute scoreless streak by scoring a layup. Rutgers-Newark built off of that and settled into the game, cutting the deficit down to 9 via a Salisbury free-throw. Salisbury wasn't done keeping Rutgers-Newark in the game as he buried a three-pointer with 48 seconds left in the opening half to send the Scarlet Raiders into the locker room down eight.

Kelvin Marshall, who finished the game with 10 points, paired up with Bowens to hit back-to-back layups to open the second half to bring them within four of the Ducks. Rutgers-Newark's offense slowed down after the quick start and allowed Stevens to push their lead back out to double-digits where it would remain for the rest of the contest.
