Men's Basketball Drops NJAC Bout Against Undefeated Kean

UNION, NJ | The men's basketball squad took on Kean University in their second New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) bout. Rutgers-Newark fell to 1-6, 0-2 with the 74-58 loss while Kean improved to 8-0, 3-0. 

Rutgers-Newark's offense started off sluggish which saw them fall behind 16-6 after the opening eight minutes. Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd cut the deficit to seven with a bucket from behind the arc. Anees Raheem and Tony Godwin had the Scarlet Raiders' rolling and brought it down to three with 10 minutes to go. The Cougars came roaring back and pushed their lead out to 12. Levi Holton briefly cut it down to eight, however, Kean Hit a pair of jumpers before the half time buzzer to take a 12 point lead into the locker room. 

In the second half, Travis Miles helped the Scarlet Raiders come within six of the Cougars before Kean once again stretched their lead out to double digits. Kean used a 20-6 run to cement their lead in the game as the Scarlet Raiders were unable to regain momentum. Eli Camacho entered the game late and led the team in scoring with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor.

The Scarlet Raiders remain on the road when they travel to Galloway, NJ to take on Stockton in another NJAC matchup.
