Holton Paces Men's Basketball With 18 points for First NJAC Win

CAMDEN, NJ | Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd hit the go-ahead free throw with six seconds left to lift the Scarlet Raiders to their first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win of the season. Rutgers-Newark improved to 2-7, 1-3, with the 55-54 win over Rutgers-Camden as they moved to 2-8, 0-5 with the loss.

Levi Holton led the Scarlet Raiders with 18 points on a perfect 9-for-9 shooting from the floor while also leading the team with seven rebounds. Jenkins-Floyd finished second on the team with 10 points and five steals.

Rutgers-Newark saw themselves fall behind by as much as 14 in the first half after a slow start. A dunk by Holton with 1:50 remaining cut their deficit, however, shortly after, the Scarlet Raptors responded quickly with a three to take a 10-point lead into the half.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders slowly chipped away at the lead and with 4:09 left in the game Holton banked a shot off of the glass to put  Rutgers-Newark up one. Rutgers-Camden responded with a three to go up two but Kelvin Marshall erased that deficit quickly with a layup at the other end. For the remaining two minutes, the game was played at the charity stripe which favored Rutgers-Newark as they would convert the final one to steal the game from Rutgers-Camden.
