Lambert's Team-High 21 Points Gives Women's Basketball Their First NJAC Win of the Season

CAMDEN, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team picked up their first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win of the season, ending a six-game losing skid, after beating Rutgers University-Camden, 75-62. The win improves the Scarlet Raiders to 3-6, 1-3 while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 1-9, 0-5.

Syncere Lambert paced the Scarlet Raiders with 21 points, collecting 9 of her points from the charity stripe. Ebony Odom Barnes and Lourdes Marasigan each added 14 points and six rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders and Scarlet Raptors traded blows for the entirety of the first quarter as neither team could jump ahead by more than two points. Lambert would send Rutgers-Newark into the second quarter with a 14-13 lead. The Scarlet Raiders carried that momentum over into the second stanza and outscored their counterparts, 22-16. After falling behind by six, Rutgers-Newark dug their feet in and responded with an 8-0 run to jump in the driver's seat and take a 26-24. Back-to-back three-point baskets by Marasigan pushed their lead out to seven before the half.

Marasigan stayed hot from behind the arc and cashed in from deep to give Rutgers-Newark their first double-digit lead of the game. For the majority of the third quarter, they would hang onto that lead until the Scarlet Raptors eventually gained their form and cut the lead down to five. Rutgers-Newark rebounded in the fourth and made sure they regained their double-digit lead. With the double-digit lead in hand, they would cruise to the final buzzer to earn their first NJAC win of the season.
