Brodie's 20 Points Not Enough to Overcome Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ | Rutgers-Newark suffered a tough loss to Centenary on Wednesday, falling 57-45. Despite winning the first and third quarters, Rutgers-Newark was unable to keep up with Centenary's strong offense. Sanaa Brodie led the way for Rutgers-Newark with 20 points, while Syncere Lambert added 11. Despite their efforts, Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-7 overall with the loss. Centenary, on the other hand, improves to 7-4 with the victory.

Rutgers-Newark got off to a strong start, with freshman guard Brodie scoring five points in the first quarter to give her team an early lead. But Centenary responded with a strong offensive performance of their own, with 17 points in the second quarter. The offensive explosion put the Scarlet Raiders on their heels as they struggled to keep up with the high paced offense. The eight points scored by Rutgers-Newark saw them take a 27-19 deficit into the half.

The Scarlet Raiders put forth their best performance of the game to try to mount a comeback in the third quarter by scoring 18 points. Rutgers-Newark strong performance brought them within two of the Cyclones with just one quarter to play. The Cyclones found the spark they needed in the fourth quarter to put a stop to the Scarlet Raiders' comeback and out scored Rutgers-Newark 18-8 in the final stanza to secure the non-conference win.
