#RUMBB's Late Game Surge Not Enough to Down Stockton

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team battled against the top seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), Stockton University. The game came down to the wire, but it was Stockton who survived the late surge by Rutgers-Newark, 61-58. Before the game, the men's basketball team honored their four seniors, Abe Kromah, Darris Watkins, Dante Ralph, and Quincy Rutherford

Rutgers-Newark (15-8, 12-5) was led by Kromah's 19 points on the night. Rutherford added 14 points while Jamir Patterson and Ralph shared the lead on the team with seven rebounds apiece.

Stockton (20-4, 14-3) had four players score in double digits with DJ Campbell sitting atop the list with 17 points. Jonathan Azoroh and Kyion Flanders each added eight rebounds as well as 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Scarlet Raiders fell behind early on, 10-3, but quickly tied it up at 13 after Patterson cashed in on a mid-range jumper. The men would then be held scoreless for a three-minute span late in the first half which allowed Stockton to stretch their lead out to 10. They would get their offense moving again to head into the locker room down just six.

Throughout the second half, the Scarlet Raiders continued to chip away at the lead and were able to cut the lead down to just a pair several times, however, they were never able to hop in front of Stockton. Once again the Ospreys held a double-digit lead with 2:56 to go, however, the men gave themselves a chance as time expired by cutting the lead down to three. With the last possession, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to give themselves a shot at tying the game as time expired on the game.
