In the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders fell behind by as much as three before using kills by Eric Hollenbach, Au, and Kumar to tie the set up before taking the lead. With the Scarlet Raiders ahead 24-23 another string of service errors pushed the set past the 25-point limit. With just a two-point, 15-13, lead Rutgers-Newark used a 7-1 run to burst the game open in their favor. They would use that momentum to finish off the set and carry that into the third and final set.

The Scarlet Raiders came out strong in the third set putting Baldwin Wallace behind 6-1. With the lead, Rutgers-Newark kept their foot on the gas and picked up the sweep to open the tri-match.
