No. 7 #RUNMVB Cruises Past Lancaster Bible for 8-Straight Wins

NEWARK, NJ | The No. 7 ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team remained hot tonight and swept Lancaster Bible, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21) to extend their win streak to eight in a row.

Rutgers-Newark (9-1) was led by Andrew Zaleck and Arvind Kumar at the net. Zaleck tallied a team-high 15 kills on a scorching .571  hit percentage while Kumar added 11 kills of his own. At the net, Daniel Quay paced the team with three block assists with Matt Nikishin leading the charge with seven digs. The reigning CVC & NJAC Player of the Week, Derek Au, secured another 37 assists in tonight's win.

The Scarlet Raiders fell behind early, 5-2, on in the opening set against the Chargers. Once the squad settled in, they became more comfortable on their home floor and used a 9-2 run to take a 14-10 lead. With the lead in hand, the Scarlet Raiders held on tight and wouldn't relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set. Lancaster Bible made a bid late in the set, using a 3-1 run, however, Quay slammed the ball down to put his team up 1-0 in the match.

With one win under their belt, the Scarlet Raiders became more confident and started to pick apart the Chargers. A pair of kills by Zaleck bookended by a service ace by Au put the Scarlet Raiders up 10-5. Rutgers-Newark continued to extend their lead and saw their lead grow to 9 after Hollenbach went back-to-back with a pair of kills to put his team up 21-12. With just three points to go, Zaleck, Quay, and Aidan Apito all recorded a kill to give the Scarlet Raiders a 2-0 lead.

Once again, the Scarlet Raiders used an early run to jump in front 11-5. However, that lead wouldn't last long as Lancaster Bible battled all the way back to knot the set up at 20. With the set tied, the Scarlet Raiders used a 5-1 run to close out the set and win the match 3-0.
