Bring Out The Brooms! No. 7 #RUNMVB Swept No. 4 Stevens Tonight, 3-0

NEWARK, NJ | For the second straight meeting, the #7 ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad swept #4 ranked Stevens Institute of Technology at The Golden Dome on Wednesday night, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-15).

Rutgers-Newark (10-1) was led by Arvind Kumar's 13 kills while Andrew Zaleck finished with 10 of his own. Derek Au passed the ball with ease and picked up 34 assists while Martin Chromulak tallied a team-high four blocks. Daniel Quay finished with eight kills and Matt Nikishin once again led the team with seven digs.

Stevens (10-2) struggled offensively, tallying double-digit kills in just one set. Jack Fyda paced the team with six kills alongside Nathan Lancia while Louden Moran tallied 12 assists.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the match with a block party, with Chromulak tallying two block assists to set the tone for the night. Rutgers-Newark and Stevens bounced back-and-forth after that until the Scarlet Raiders dug their feet in and used a 5-2 run to take a 12-8 lead. Robert Long further increased the Scarlet Raiders' lead with a kill off of a pass from Au to put his squad up 18-13. With the lead firmly in hand, Chromulak found an opening in Stevens' defense to slam home the set point.

Off of the convincing opening set win, the Scarlet Raiders used that confidence boost to jump out to a 6-0 lead against Stevens to start the second set. Stevens made a bid for a comeback late in the set to cut their deficit down to three, however, a 5-2 run was helmed by a pair of Kumar kills followed by an Elan Dorkhman ace put the Scarlet Raiders in the driver's seat for the match.

In their most convincing win of the night, the Scarlet Raiders dominated Stevens with a 25-15 win in the third and final set. Rutgers-Newark held Stevens to just four kills while tallying a match-high 16 on .357 hitting.
