Rutherford Vaults #RUNMBB To ECAC Championship Game

NEWARK, NJ | Quincy Rutherford returned to form with 24 points as Rutgers University-Newark cruised past Penn St.-Behrend in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Semifinal, 66-50.

The Scarlet Raiders will now host a familiar foe in William Paterson, a team they split the regular season with in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Rutgers-Newark (19-9) shot 56% from the floor as a team and 46.2% from three. Abe Kromah added 10 points while Jamir Patterson and Dante Ralph tallied 9 and 8, respectively. On the boards, Levi Holton continued his ascension as he led the team with 11 rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders and Lions jockeyed back and forth for the lead throughout a majority of the first half. The Scarlet Raiders then went on a 7-0 run, sparked by Travis Miles, that vaulted them to an 8-point lead. Penn St.-Behrend tried to cut their deficit down, however, the Scarlet Raiders kept their foot on the gas pedal and took a 10-point lead into the half.

Out of the half, the Scarlet Raiders had all of the momentum on their side and never squandered their double-digit lead.  Tommy DiRienzo nearly sparked the Lions' offense with a three, but, Rutherford answered with a pair from the charity stripe to keep his team in front. As the game wore down, the Lions were unable to create the rally necessary to bring themselves back into the game.
