NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders baseball team dropped a twin bill against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foes #7 Rowan University today, 17-4, 2-1.

Game 1: Rowan 17, Rutgers-Newark 4

Rutgers-Newark (12-17, 2-11) scattered 10 hits in the first game of the pair this afternoon and plated four runs. Leading the pack was Eric Recchia who finished the game 3-for-4 while Tony Liggio was the only other Scarlet Raider to record a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4. Colin Thomson (2-3) hurled 4.1 innings with two strikeouts while allowing 11 hits.

Rowan (25-6, 11-2) used 19 hits to score 17 run s in the opening game. Marco Mannino finished 5-for-5 with 3 RBIs and four runs as Chris Curcio added four hits and 3 RBIs.

After a quiet first pair of innings, Rowan was first on the board with a pair of runs in the 3rd before the Scarlet Raiders added one of their own in the bottom of the stanza. To do so, Robert Gonzalez hit a triple to right field which would scored Recchia to cut their deficit in half.

Rowan then opened the flood gates and scored 15 runs over the course of the next four innings. Once again, the Scarlet Raiders saw their offense pick up in the bottom of the 9th where they went on to score three runs but it was too little too late as they were unable to overcome the deficit.

Game 2: Rowan 2, Rutgers-Newark 1

The Scarlet Raiders (12-18, 2-12) out hit the Profs, 6-3 in the second game, however, it was the Profs (26-6, 12-2) who came away with the 2-1 win.

Rutgers-Newark was first on the board with a run in the bottom of the 1st when Recchia used a sacrifice bunt to score Lisandro Ulerio from 3rd. The Scarlet Raiders' offense would stall the rest of the game as Rowan plated runs in the 6th and the 8th to complete the NJAC sweep against Rutgers-Newark.
