#RUNMSOC Draws Salisbury, 0-0

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer squad squared off against Salisbury on the opening day of the Seahawk Classic and played to a 0-0 draw. The draw moved the Scarlet Raiders to 1-2-1 while Salisbury moved to 0-2-2.

The Scarlet Raiders' offense got to work early, testing opposing netminder, Sklyer McCarthy, early on with a pair of shots. Franco Catania and Michael Tavares both forced McCarthy to make a save to keep the Scarlet Raiders off of the scoreboard. Catania's barrage wouldn't stop as he continued to pepper McCarthy from every angle, however, McCarthy was up to the task.

With Salisbury withstanding each attack the Scarlet Raiders threw at them, they would go into the half with a 0-0 scoreline.

In the second stanza, Salisbury came out as the aggressor, firing off 10 shots. Rutgers-Newark matched that tempo, registering eight shots of their own. The Scarlet Raiders tallied five of their eight shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half, however, they were unable to find the back of the net. Christian Andrach was called upon four times and made the save each time. Catania registered the final shot for the Scarlet Raiders in the 75th minute as their offense stalled for the final 15 minutes.

They return to action tomorrow against hosts St. Mary's at 4:00 pm.
