#RUNWVB Unable to Overcome Valiants in Non-Conference Bout

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad continued their losing skid this evening when they fell to Manhattanville in straight sets, 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-11). The Scarlet Raiders dropped to 0-4 while Manhattanville improved to 5-1.

In the opening set, the Valiants jumped out to a small lead, however, the Scarlet Raiders battled back within one, 5-4. A 6-1 run by Manhattanville forced the Scarlet Raiders to call a timeout down 11-5. The timeout wouldn't do the Scarlet Raiders any favors as Manhattanville continued to play aggressive volleyball as they went on to win, 25-9.

Saniyiah Richardson started the second set with a service ace for the Scarlet Raiders. That ace ignited Rutgers-Newark as they would move in front to a 5-3 lead. The Valiants would jump in front but the Scarlet Raiders battled back, highlighted by a double block from Kaiel Maynor and Arisa Khalaj. The Valiants dug their feet in and took control of the set late to take a 2-0 lead in the match with 25-16 win.

Manhattanville continued their strong play in the 3rd set and took a 12-4 lead midway through the set. Rutgers-Newark tried to climb out their deficit but were unable to go on a run to take the lead. Manhattanville closed out the match with a 25-11 win in the final set.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday when they hit the road for the first time this season to take on Albright College at 11:00 am.
