#RUNWVB Falls in Reading, PA to Albright, 3-0

READING, PA | Alexa Rivera led the Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball team with eight kills as Rutgers-Newark fell to Albright, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-6). The loss moves the Scarlet Raiders to 0-5 while Albright improved to 6-2.

In the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders tallied 12 kills and hit .212 as a team, besting Albright's 9 kills. Rutgers-Newark battled back from down 7-1 early in the set using a 7-1 run to bring it within one. Albright pulled away from the Scarlet Raiders midway through the set, tallying seven points to just three for their opponents. Rivera tried to bring back the Scarlet Raiders down the stretch, recording a kill from Jackie Rosario, but an attacking error on the next play ended the comeback.

The second set was more of a back and forth affair as neither team went on a long run to pull away from the other. Down 20-16 in the waning moments of the set, the Scarlet Raiders scored three straight points to cut the lead down to one. Angie Santos, second on the team in aces, served up an ace before Aliyah Sanchez powered one home. Albright stopped the comeback with a kill by Paola Mejias to set up a 4-2 run to close out the set.

Rutgers-Newark couldn't get their offense started in the third set as Albright jumped out to a 12-1 lead before extending that to 21-5. Albright has their best outing of the match in the final set, tallying 11 kills while hitting .370 for the set.
