#RUNWVB Stumbles on the Road Against Widener, 3-0

CHESTER, PA | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team lost their 7th straight tonight after falling to Widener on the road, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-10). The loss moves the Scarlet Raiders to 0-7 when Widener improves to 4-8.

Much like she's done all season, Alexa Rivera led the team with 9 kills while Jackie Rosario paced the team with 14 assists. Defensively, Saniyiah Richardson posted five digs.

Rutgers-Newark quickly found themselves behind 7-2 to open the first set but it wasn't until the middle of the set that the Scarlet Raiders made up ground. Widener was able to fend off the furious Scarlet Raiders comeback to take the opening set at home, 25-17.

The Scarlet Raiders had their best output of the match in the second set, hitting .111, however, it wasn't enough to topple Widener. Rutgers-Newark held an early edge but saw it slip away after Widener went on a run to regain the lead. Once in control, Widener didn't relinquish the lead and would go on to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set didn't go the way the Scarlet Raiders had hoped as they were unable to get their offense going. Rutgers-Newark recorded just four kills in the final stanza as Widener cruised to the win.

Up Next:
The Scarlet Raider return to action on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Cairn for another non-conference bout at 11:00am.
