#RUNWVB Fall Short Against Cairn, 3-0

LANGHORNE, PA | Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball took on Cairn for their second match in as many days and fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-20). The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 0-8 while Cairn moves up to 7-2.

The Scarlet Raiders started the match off in stride, taking an 8-4 lead over the Highlanders. Leading that charge was Alexa Rivera who picked up two kills during that 5-0 run. Cairn answered back with a 4-0 run to tie the set up at eight before going on a 9-2 run to put them in the lead. Stefani Talevska brought the Scarlet Raiders within four with a pass from Jackie Rosario, however, they were unable to close the gap.

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders' offense stalled early on and Cairn was able to take advantage as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead. Rutgers-Newark tried to climb back in the set with a 4-0 run but they were too far behind as Cairn closed out the set with a 4-1 run to go up 2-0 in the match.

Despite having their best set of the match, tallying 9 kills while hitting .132, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to claim a set against the Highlanders. Rutgers-Newark took a 6-1 lead out of the gate until Cairn got hot from the service line and tallied four service aces during an 8-0 run to jump in the lead. With the lead in hand, the Highlanders closed out the match.
