Maynor Tallies Team-High 9 Kills in Loss to Rowan

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad dropped their 9th straight match this evening in their 2nd New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup. The Profs of Rowan University improved to 14-2, 4-0 with the 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-14) win while the Scarlet Raiders fell to 0-9, 0-2.

Rowan jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the opening set against the Scarlet Raiders sparked by attacking errors. Offensively, Rutgers-Newark struggled to find gaps in the Profs' defense, however, midway through the set Kaiel Maynor found an opening to cut the lead down to 16-7. On a long rally, Maynor struck again to give the Scarlet Raiders a point and bring them within 9. Just when the Scarlet Raiders began to gain steam and make a comeback, Rowan closed the door on set one, 25-14.

Rutgers-Newark and Rowan went back and forth in the early part of the set, until a 4-1 run by the Profs put them ahead 9-4 which caused the Scarlet Raiders to call a timeout. The timeout didn't do the Scarlet Raiders any favors as Rowan came out of the timeout stronger and jumped ahead 20-6. Once again, the team swapped points down the stretch, but ultimately Rowan took the second set, 25-12.

Similarly to the opening stanza, Rowan played their way in front, attacking the defensive gaps. The Scarlet Raiders tried to chip away at the lead, however, they were too far behind their NJAC powerhouse opponents and fell, 25-14.
