Women's Volleyball Stumbles in Season Opener

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad opened their 2022 season today and fell in four sets to Pratt Institute, 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 25-20, 25-19).

The Scarlet Raiders (0-1) hit .132 as a team and were led by Alexa Rivera's 20 kills. Kaiel Maynor added 12 kills while Jackie Rosario had a solid day passing with 27 assists. Defensively, Saniyiah Richardson led the way with 21 digs with Rivera close behind with 20.

In the first set, the Scarlet Raiders used a 6-2 run to take a lead, however, they would lose hold of that lead when Pratt went on a 7-1 run to close out the opening stanza.

The Scarlet Raiders closed out the second set to knot the match up at one after falling behind early. A 7-1 run halfway through the set, put them in the driver's seat. Pratt would come roaring back and that forced the Scarlet Raiders to put together a 3-1 run to even the match at one.

The following two sets, the Scarlet Raiders battled but were unable to replicate the success they had in the second set as they fell in four sets to open their season.
