#RUNWVB Unable to Overcome USMMA

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad suffered their second loss of the season tonight at The Golden Dome when they fell to USMMA, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18). The Scarlet Raiders dropped to 0-2 with the loss while USMMA moved to 2-0.

The Scarlet Raiders were led by Alexa Rivera's eight kills while Jackie Rosario added 13 assists. Defensively, Saniyiah Richardson paced the team with 14 digs.

With the opening set knotted at five, USMMA took hold of the set with a 6-0 run to take the lead. With the lead in hand, the Mariners cruised to the win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders, behind a kill from Rivera, took a 4-0 lead. Rutgers-Newark then jumped out to a 14-10 lead with a kill by Kaiel Maynor. Rutgers-Newark's offense stalled which allowed USMMA to go on a 7-0 run. The Scarlet Raiders brought it within two but were unable to fully close the gap as USMMA closed out the second set on a 5-0 run.

The third set showcased back and forth action, however, USMMA pulled away in the middle portion of the set to close out the match, 3-0.
