Turnover Plagued Scarlet Raiders Fall to Rowan, 92-31

NEWARK, NJ | Turnover plagued Rutgers University-Newark suffered a 92-31 loss to Rowan University on Saturday night at The Golden Dome. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders down to 3-13, 1-8 while Rowan improved to 9-7, 5-4. 

Horton scored 21 of the Scarlet Raiders' 31 points while also leading the team with six rebounds. Newcomer Trinity Clacken finished second on the team in scoring with four points and four rebounds. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders turned the ball over 30 times and shot 20% from the floor while Rowan shot 50% from the field and 42% from three. 

Samiyah Horton was Rutgers-Newark's offense in the first quarter, scoring six of their seven points to open the game. Despite that, Rowan took a 14-7 lead at The Golden Dome heading into the second quarter of play. When the page turned, Rowan's offense found its stride as their high-powered attack scored 26 points in the second quarter while holding the Scarlet Raiders' offense to 9. 

Rutgers-Newark struggled to get their offense going against a tough Rowan defense as they forced 17 turnovers in the first half. Horton scored another six points in the second as the engine of the team, however, Rowan built up a 40-16 lead as time expired in the first half of play.

Rowan came out of the break and scored its highest total of the game, 35, as they extended their lead further. After being held to five points in the third stanza, Rutgers-Newark scored 10 in the fourth but were unable to crack Rowan's defense and get their offense going.
