Odom Barnes' Double Double Not Enough to Topple Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ | Ebony Odom Barnes recorded her fourth double-double of the season but was unable to overcome New Jersey Athletic Conference's (NJAC) top squad, Ramapo. The Roadrunners used a strong third quarter to take down the Scarlet Raiders 71-54 and improve to 14-3, 8-2 while dropping the Scarlet Raiders down to 1-9, 3-14.

Odom Barnes paced the Scarlet Raiders with 16 points and 10 rebounds while also leading the way with four steals and two blocks. Elisha India Cross and Samiyah Horton added 13 each in the loss. Syncere Lambert directed traffic and dished out four assists.

The Roadrunners controlled the early tempo of the opening quarter while the Scarlet Raiders got off to a slow start. Ramapo, currently the best team in the NJAC with a record of 14-3, 8-2, had their offense flowing while stifling Rutgers-Newark's offense and took a 17-8 lead into the second quarter. The Scarlet Raiders, however, started to find their game as the first quarter came to a close as Elisha India Cross swished an end-line jumper as time expired.

Rutgers-Newark continued to build off of that momentum early in the second quarter and cut the lead down to four with a basket by Trinity Clacken. The Scarlet Raiders exploited holes in the Roadrunners' defense while also remaining disciplined on defense which allowed them to come within one after a Horton step-back jumper. With the Roadrunners on their heels, the Scarlet Raiders took advantage and as time expired took a 23-22 lead into the locker room.

The Scarlet Raiders remained strong for the first five minutes of the third quarter, however, Ramapo began to use their high-paced offense to go on a 21-0 run and take a 46-29 lead. Odom Barnes broke the Scarlet Raiders' five minute scoreless streak and brought them within 17. Horton found her shot from behind the arc which began to turn the tides in the Scarlet Raiders' favor. The 10-2 run brought Rutgers-Newark within 9 and forced Ramapo to call a timeout to try to cool off the suddenly red-hot Scarlet Raiders.

Just as quickly as the Scarlet Raiders began to take over the game the Roadrunners regained their composure and stretched their lead out to 66-49. Rutgers-Newark was unable to find their magic from earlier in the game as Ramapo would glide to their eighth NJAC win.
