Odom Barnes Scores 14 in Loss to Kean, 84-52

Box Score NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team dropped their 9th straight when they lost 84-52 to Kean University on Saturday evening. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 3-15, 1-10 while Kean improved to 10-8, 8-3.

Ebony Odom Barnes paced the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points and 9 rebounds while Syncere Lambert and Samiyah Horton added 13 and 11, respectively. For Kean, Shannon McCoy led the way with 27 points while Brittany Graff added 20 of her own.

The Scarlet Raiders quickly jumped in front to start the game, however, Kean responded with a 12-2 run to grab hold of the lead. Out of the timeout, Elisha India Cross euro stepped her way to the basket to get her team back on the board. The Cougars capitalized off of the Scarlet Raiders' turnovers in the first quarter and turned them into seven points.

Trinity Clacken was the spark for the Scarlet Raiders in the second quarter, as she ended Kean's 10-0 run and kept Rutgers-Newark in the game with her inside presence. Odom Barnes fed off of that energy and began to exploit the interior just as Clacken did to bring her team within 19. The Scarlet Raiders defense improved in the second stanza and held Kean to 14 points after they opened the game with 24. Offensively, the Scarlet Raiders matched their output in the first with another 9 points before heading into the locker room.

Horton and Lambert came out firing from behind the arc and hit back to back three point shots to start the third which helped ignite the Scarlet Raiders' offense. The hot start for the Scarlet Raiders eventually fizzled out as Kean kept the pressure on and had their highest scoring quarter of the game with 29. Rutgers-Newark's offense improved in the second half but was unable to climb out of hole from earlier in the game.
