#RUNMBB Misses at the Buzzer as Kean Hangs On to Win 67-65

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders men's basketball team had a chance to send the game into overtime as time expired but saw their shot roll out as Kean hung on to beat Rutgers-Newark 67-65 at The Golden Dome. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 5-13, 3-8 while Kean improved to 14-4, 7-4.

Levi Holton paced the Scarlet Raiders with 15 points while Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd and Tony Godwin added 14 each. Jenkins-Floyd nearly recorded a triple double as he also led the team with six rebounds and eight assists. Griffin Barker led the Cougars with 26 points and seven rebounds in the win.

The Scarlet Raiders and Cougars went back and forth in the opening 10 minutes of the game until Jenkins-Floyd hit a shot from behind the arc to put Rutgers-Newark up 20-18 with 7:25 to go. Griffin Barker found his way in the paint and kissed one off of the glass to knot the game up for the second time. A Bowen layup followed by a corner three by Godwin increased Rutgers-Newark's lead to 27-22 with 4:42 remaining in the first half. Kean ended the Scarlet Raiders' 8-0 run when Alicea wiggled his way to the basket to cut the lead down to four. When the dust settled after the first half, the Scarlet Raiders held a three-point, 33-30, lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the pace of play remained the same with neither team able to take advantage and open up a large lead. Holton found his stride in the second half and began to pick apart the Cougars from the inside. Godwin, with four seconds left, put Rutgers-Newark up 61-57 with a hard-driving layup. Kean quickly answered which prompted a timeout by the Scarlet Raiders. Out of Kean's timeout, Letrell West hit a pull-up jumper to tie the game up with just over three minutes remaining. After Griffin Barker put the Cougars ahead, Godwin went to the line and hit one of two with 10 seconds left to bring Rutgers-Newark within one. The Scarlet Raiders would have a great look at the end as time expired when the inbound pass went to Travis Miles but his chances rolled out as Kean would hang on to win 67-65.
