Rutgers-Newark Men's Basketball Falls to Montclair on the Road

MONTCLAIR, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders men's basketball team stumbled on the road against Montclair State University, 71-50, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. Rutgers-Newark dropped to 5-14, 3-9 on the year while Montclair improved to 16-3, 10-2. 

Tyrone Bowens and Levi Holton led the Scarlet Raiders with 13 points each while Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd tallied six rebounds. Mike Jackson paced the Red Hawks with 23 points. 

The Scarlet Raiders started the game in the driver's seat behind Travis Miles' five points. Montclair swung momentum in their favor to take a five point lead after Kyree Henry cashed in from the charity stripe. Montclair continued to build upon their lead with a 6-0 run to take a 23-15 lead. Bowens brought the Scarlet Raiders within two with a layup, however, Montclair found their groove and pushed their lead out to 10 before the break.

The Red Hawks came out strong in the second half and added 40 points to their 31 they scored in the first. The Scarlet Raiders cut the lead down to six in the beginning of the second half but Montclair used a 14-4 run to bolster their lead. Rutgers-Newark was unable to overcome the deficit as Montclair held onto the win.
