NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team kept their playoff hopes alive this evening when they took down New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents, Rutgers-Camden, 71-63. With the win, Rutgers-Newark improves to 6-14, 4-9 while Rutgers-Camden drops down to 3-17, 1-12.

Tony Godwin led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points while Tyrone Bowens added 12. Eli Camacho scored a career-high 10 points with Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd tallying 11 points and six rebounds.

After hopping out in front to start the game, the Scarlet Raiders eventually briefly gave up the lead after Cameron Downs cashed in from range. Kelvin Marshall quickly responded with a layup which ignited a 12-4 run by the Scarlet Raiders. During that run, Tony Godwin found himself open from behind the arc and converted the basket to put the Scarlet Raiders up 22-12. With 7:09 on the clock, the Scarlet Raptors converted from the charity stripe to bring themselves within five before eventually falling behind by six as they went into the locker room.

Camacho continued his career afternoon and put the Scarlet Raiders up by 10 after converting from behind the arc. As the second half wore on, however, the Scarlet Raptors began to gain momentum and with 8:47 remaining, took a 49-48 lead, erasing their 10-point deficit. Levi Holton swapped the lead in his favor with a driving layup which was followed up by a pair of free throws by Jenkins-Floyd. Off of the back of those free throws, the Scarlet Raiders maintained a narrow lead for the remainder of the game.
