Espinoza & Maynor Lead Women's Volleyball in Loss to Rutgers-Camden

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad suffered a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss to Rutgers University-Camden on Tuesday night, 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-11).

Rutgers-Newark (9-8, 1-3) was led by Mia Espinoza and Kaiel Maynor as they both tallied seven kills. Espinoza hit a team-high .250 and added a block while Angelyse Orellana picked up 14 assists. Rutgers-Camden (11-8, 3-2) tallied 15 blocks as a team and were led by Dyamond Free's 10 kills.

The Scarlet Raiders quickly saw themselves behind 7-4 in the opening stanza, however, they battled back to take a 10-9 lead behind a pair of service aces by Maynor. Rutgers-Camden responded with a 9-1 run to jump ahead 18-11. Rutgers-Newark tried to climb back into the set but couldn't regain their form as they would fall 25-16.

Rutgers-Newark's offense stalled in the final two sets as they failed to secure more than 11 points in either set as Rutgers-Camden's defense remained stout.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to take on USMMA.
