Women's Soccer Falls to Rutgers-Camden on Rain Soaked Pitch

CAMDEN, NJ | Leila Ettayebi and Julia Nephew combined for eight of the Scarlet Raiders' 12 shots in a 1-0 loss to Rutgers University-Camden this afternoon.

Rutgers-Newark (5-10, 1-5) scattered 12 shots evenly across the two halves, putting half of them on frame while Rutgers-Camden (7-6-1, 3-3) benefitted from a strong second half and tallied 9 of its 12 shots.

After a scoreless opening half, the Scarlet Raiders nearly put their first marker on the scoreboard in the first seven minutes of the second stanza when Ettayebi bounced a shot off of the left post. The rain continued to pour onto the field throughout the game, affecting play on both sides.

The Scarlet Raptors broke the deadlock with eight minutes remaining in the game when Maresa Savarese found the back of the net. Savarese picked up her own rebound and tapped it into the goal to put her squad ahead and eventually collect the three points.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Wednesday, October 18 when they travel to Mahwah, NJ to take on Ramapo College.
