Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Rutgers-Newark Athletic Communications

High Volume Shooting Lifts Women's Soccer Past Ramapo, 3-2

MAHWAH, NJ | Three different goal scorers kept the women's soccer season alive as they took down Ramapo, 3-2, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action this evening. 

Rutgers-Newark (6-10, 2-5) rifled off 31(17) shots led by Tamia Howell's eight. Katie McLaughlin made three saves on the night for the Scarlet Raiders. Ramapo (2-10-1, 0-6-1) was held to 8(5) shots but found the back of the net twice in the loss. 

Leila Ettayebi got the Scarlet Raiders on the board early with a goal in the opening 10 minutes. Ramapo quickly responded to level the game at one despite being outshot 13-4 in the opening stanza. 

The Roadrunners jumped ahead eight minutes out of the break where they briefly held a 2-1 lead. Howell recorded her second point of the night when she beat Makenna Tahbaz for the second goal of the game. With just 15 minutes remaining, Rutgers-Newark was awarded a penalty kick which was converted by Camila Howard for what would be the game-winning goal. 

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, October 21 when they host to Kean University at 7:00 p.m.
