Men's Soccer Moves to the Win Column With 3-0 Win Over Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ | Gerson Gonzalez-Quevedo tallied a goal and an assist in a crucial 3-0 win over Ramapo College this evening at Frederick Douglass Field in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders men's soccer squad secured its spot in the NJAC Playoffs.

Rutgers-Newark (5-7-4, 3-2-2) tallied 16(10) shots in the win with Erick Cortes putting both of his attempts on frame. Pedro Flores made four saves in the shutout. Ramapo (4-9-2, 1-6) recorded 12(5) shots in the game and were led by Kyle Allen's six attempts.

The Scarlet Raiders men's soccer team got off to a commanding start against the Roadrunners this evening as they tallied 9 first half shots, putting five of them on frame. One of those five found its way into the back of the net via a chip shot from Jake Milne for his first goal of the season. Gabriel Espada then made several more saves to prevent the Scarlet Raiders from expanding upon their lead as the first half came to a close.

Ramapo nearly opened the second half with a goal, however, the shot by Kyle Allen bounced off of the post and away from harm. Minutes later, Marlon Rodriguez almost doubled the Scarlet Raiders' lead when he unleashed a cannon from 20 yards out after dribbling by several defenders. Gerson Gonzalez-Quevedo increased Rutgers-Newark's lead to two after Andrew Solomon connected with him in the box where he hit a low shot into the bottom left corner. Erick Cortes scored his team-leading 5th goal of the season after Gonzalez-Quevedo threaded him a through ball to put him in on a breakaway. The Scarlet Raiders locked up their defense and held onto the shutout for the win.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, October 21 when they travel to Union, NJ to take on Kean University at 4:00 p.m.
