Men's Soccer Drops NJAC Road Contest to Kean, 1-0

UNION, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Kean University on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Rutgers-Newark (5-8-4, 3-3-2) registered 19 shots in the loss with Erick Cortes leading the way with seven shots. Pedro Flores made three saves between the pipes for the Scarlet Raiders as Kean University (10-0-6, 5-0-3) tallied 13 shots.

The Scarlet Raiders were on their heels to open the game as Kean tallied five shots in the opening 20 minutes. The barrage of attacks eventually broke down the defensive unit and found the back of the net. Donte East was able to beat Flores to stamp his name in the scoring ledger and put the Cougars up 1-0. Rutgers-Newark's offense was held in check in the first half, registering just three shots to Kean's 10.

In the second half, Rutgers-Newark found its offense as they took 16 shots against the Cougars. The Scarlet Raiders, however, were unable to sneak a shot by Dominic Ridge as he finished the game with six saves.

Rutgers-Newark will return to action on Wednesday, October 25 when they close out the NJAC regular season against New Jersey City University at 7:00 p.m.
