Morales Scores in 2-1 Loss to Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ | Erick Morales gave the Scarlet Raiders an early 1-0 lead, but, Stevens scored two unanswered to win, 2-1, in a non-conference match.

Rutgers-Newark (3-6-3) finished with 16 (6) shots while Stevens (5-2-3) scored their two goals on 16 (8) shots.

Erick Morales gave the Scarlet Raiders a brief 1-0 lead in the 31st minute when he curled a gorgeous shot into the top left corner. Stevens responded two minutes later with a header goal from John Kovalchuk. The Ducks kept the pressure on and fired two more shots toward net before breaking the deadlock two minutes before half.

Down one goal, the Scarlet Raiders remained aggressive in the final third and tallied 10 shots in the second half. The Ducks, however, were up for the task as they prevented the Scarlet Raiders from finding the equalizer. Marlon Rodriguez nearly knotted the game up with 18 seconds left, however, Justin Cross made the save to secure the win.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, October 7 when they host The College of New Jersey at 7:00 p.m.
