Women's Basketball Suffers Road Loss to Alvernia, 81-49

BRIDGEWATER, VA | Samiyah Horton poured in 22 points in a 81-49 loss to Alvernia at the Bridgewater Tip-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon. 

Rutgers-Newark (1-2) suffered its second loss of the season and tallied 42 rebounds as a team led by Ebony Odom Barnes' team-high 11. Renee Houston-Allen added six points while Arlenny Medina picked up two steals. Alvernia (2-1) was led by Kayla Williams' 20 points and eight rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders quickly saw themselves fall behind by 11 in the opening five minutes of play as Alvernia came out and used its speed to get up and down the court. Rutgers-Newark made up ground in the second stanza, scoring 11 points and limiting Alvernia to 15, which sent them into the locker room down 35-20. 

After the break, Rutgers-Newark's offense stalled again, netting just seven points in the third quarter. The Scarlet Raiders saw their best quarter come in the fourth where they recorded 22 points, however, they were unable to complete the comeback.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Friday, November 17 when they host Brooklyn College at 7:00 p.m.
