Miles Scores Career High in Loss to Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark men's basketball squad dropped its second straight game after falling to Stevens Institute of Technology, 72-63 on Sunday afternoon.

Rutgers-Newark (3-3) shot 42.6% from the field in the loss and were led by Travis Miles' career-high 16 points. Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd finished the game with 12 points and a team-high seven assists. Chino Anyanwu recorded a team-high five rebounds in 11 minutes. Stevens (4-1) shot 49% from the field and picked up 21 points from Stephen Braunstein.

The Scarlet Raiders quickly found themselves behind by six points three minutes into the game. Russell Ayala cut it down to three with a three-point basket but the Ducks fended off any push by Rutgers-Newark and eventually pushed their lead out to 14 behind a 9-3 run. Kelvin Marshall helped send the Scarlet Raiders into the locker room down 11 with a basket to stop the cold streak before the break.

Out of halftime, Stevens once again used a run to extend its lead, this time to 21 points. Ayden Brown and Miles helped chip the lead down to 14 with 12:41 to go. The Ducks would keep the Scarlet Raiders at bay until the three-minute market where Jenkins-Floyd's free-throw cut it down to 9. Despite the late push, the Scarlet Raiders would only come within seven as Stevens would hold on to secure the win.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Wednesday, November 29 when they head to Montclair, NJ to take on Montclair State University at 7:30 p.m.
