Odom Barnes Paces Scarlet Raiders in NJAC Loss to Montclair

MONTCLAIR, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball slide continued tonight with an 88-43 loss to New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents, Montclair State University on Wednesday night. 

Rutgers-Newark (1-6, 0-2) was led by Ebony Odom Barnes' 17 points and three steals in the loss. Arlenny Medina added 10 points and a team-high three assists while Jaielyn Alston grabbed five rebounds. Montclair (3-4, 1-1) pulled down 41 rebounds as a team and was led by Isabella Orlando's 16 points. 

The Red Hawks opened the game with a 23-8 marker in the first quarter of play, setting the tone of the game from the tip. Rutgers-Newark regrouped in the second stanza and tallied 14 points with a late surge, to send them into the locker room with some momentum. 

Rutgers-Newark came out of the break and tallied 13 points, however, Montclair posted its strongest quarter of the game with 26 points, further extending their distance over the Scarlet Raiders. The Scarlet Raiders' shooting went cold in the final quarter as they tallied just eight points to end the game. 

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday, December 2 when they host Kean University at 4:00 p.m.
