Holton's 36-Point Outburst Lifts Men's Basketball Past MSMC, 67-59

NEWBURGH, NY | Levi Holton exploded for a career-high 36 points in the 67-59 win over Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Rutgers-Newark (6-6) shot 52% from the floor behind Holton's 88% shooting. Holton also led the team with six rebounds while Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd dished out a team-high four assists. MSMC (2-8) shot an impressive 53.8% from three-point range and were led by Connor Cyran's 14 points.

The Scarlet Raiders took an eight-point lead six minutes into the game, however, the Knights flipped that into a six-point lead behind a 14-0 run. MSMC's lead wasn't safe for long as the Scarlet Raiders came roaring back to flip the script and take a three-point lead into the half.

Holton and the Scarlet Raiders picked up where they left off in the first half as Holton quickly tallied five points to increase Rutgers-Newark's lead to seven. The Knights wouldn't go away quietly as they chipped away at the lead until they trailed by one with 10:55 to go. Over the next three minutes, Holton scored seven points to push his team ahead by eight. From there, the Scarlet Raiders held off the Knights for the remainder of the game as the Knight could not get closer than four.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Sunday, December 31 when they host Arcadia at 1:00 p.m.
