McMillan Sets School Record for Stolen Bases in a Season in Season Finale Against Baruch

NEWARK, NJ | Michelle McMillan set the Rutgers University-Newark school record with 24 steals in a single season after recording three in this afternoon's non-conference split with Baruch College. The Scarlet Raiders finished their season 9-29 while Baruch finished its year 14-12.

Game 1: Baruch 6, Rutgers-Newark 4

The Scarlet Raiders tallied seven hits led by Kayla Cardozo who finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run while Alison Miller added a pair of hits of her own.

Baruch scored the first run of the game off of an RBI double to put them up 1-0 in the first inning. The Bearcats added four to their tally in the 5th before the Scarlet Raiders came storming back in the bottom of the frame. McMillan reached first on a fielder's choice and on that same play, the Scarlet Raiders would score two runs. The very next pitch, McMillan stole second allowing Mia Lopez to come home to bring Rutgers-Newark within two.

The Bearcats added a run to their tally in the top of the 7th before the Scarlet Raiders used a Cardozo single up the middle to cut their deficit down to two. Rutgers-Newark was unable to complete the comeback after three straight outs closed out the game.

Game 2: Rutgers-Newark 10, Baruch 2 (5 inn.)

Rutgers-Newark rebounded well in the second game, scattering 16 hits to plate 10 runs. Cardozo (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win from the circle after hurling five innings and allowing just one earned run on 11 hits. McMillan finished the second game 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Marissa Houseknecht, Miller, Keelin O'Brien, and Cardozo all added two hits each.

Once again Baruch put the first marker on the scoreboard, however, the Scarlet Raiders responded with six runs in the same frame. O'Brien started the scoring off with an RBI double to left center before Cardozo followed suit to bring home O'Brien. With two runners on, McMillan hit an RBI triple down the right field line before Di Martino and Houseknecht brought in two more runs to push the Scarlet Raiders ahead 6-1.

Cardozo continued to force outs from the circle and the Scarlet Raiders' bats came alive again in the bottom of the 4th when they added four more runs to their tally to end the game in five innings.
