Men's Soccer Blanked in Season Opener

ANNVILLE, PA | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer squad opened its 2023 campaign on the road this afternoon against Lebanon Valley. The Dutchmen were able to get the better of the Scarlet Raiders on opening day to the tune of a 4-0 win. 

Lebanon Valley (1-0) found the back of the net four times on 12 shots, eight on target, while the Scarlet Raiders (0-1) tallied seven shots, forcing one save. 

The home squad broke free in the 18th minute and found the back of the net on a low shot by Aidan Negron. 10 minutes later the Dutchmen struck again this time from Lucas Strange who scored unassisted. Rutgers-Newark found their offense late in the opening stanza and started sending attempts towards goal. Aslan Kat had his attempt blocked before Dylan Sousa had his shot saved. 

In the second half, Lebanon Valley matched its goal total from the first half with two quick goals. Ryan Caruso and Frank Lozano each tried to spark the Scarlet Raiders' offense by finding the back of the net, however, both attempts would miss its mark. In the waning moments of the game, Augusto Bomtempo tried to end the shutout but his shot went just over the bar and out of play. 

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Sunday, September 3 when they take on Elizabethtown in Elizabethtown, PA at 4:00 pm.
