Men's Soccer Draws Elizabethtown, 2-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA | Late surge from the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team allows them to walk away with a 2-2 draw against Elizabethtown on Sunday afternoon. 

The Scarlet Raiders (0-1-1) used two late second-half goals from Ryan Caruso and Jean Paul Solano. Elizabethtown (1-0-1) found success early in the game, however, as the game wore on they began to lose steam which opened the door for the Scarlet Raiders.

Elizabethtown struck in the opening minute of the game with a low shot that beat Ilan Golden to go up 1-0. The Blue Jays continued to pressure the Scarlet Raiders' defensive unit and once again cracked the code in the 11th minute to double their tally. Frank Lozano nearly put a marker on the board for the Scarlet Raiders with a pair of shots, however, both missed their mark. 

In the second half, Rutgers-Newark remained offensive minded down a pair of goals. The constant attacking led to a goal in the 68th minute by Caruso. Michael Reis played a ball into Caruso where he was able to beat Kelvin Del Cid. 10 minutes later, Jean Paul Solano converted from the penalty spot to knot the game up at two. Rutgers-Newark continued knocking at the door but were unable to find a 3rd goal as the game would end in a 2-2 draw. 

The men are back in action on Tuesday, September 5 when they take on St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 7:00 p.m. at Frederick Douglass Field.
