Kat & Solano Score as Men's Soccer Draws NYU

NEWARK, NJ | Two second half goals allowed the Scarlet Raiders men's soccer team to play to a 2-2 draw this afternoon at Frederick Douglass Field to close out the 18th Annual Brick City Classic. 

The Scarlet Raiders (1-2-2) rifled off 13 shots and put seven on target while NYU (1-3-1) took 20 and put half on frame. 

It didn't take NYU long to find their way onto the scoreboard as just five minutes in Arkan Tahsildaroglu charged through the Scarlet Raiders' defensive line and hit a hard driven shot into the bottom left corner.  NYU doubled their tally in the 2nd half when Eric Smits took a pass from Nathan Bennett and pushed it into the back of the net past Pedro Flores.

Just seven minutes later, Aslan Kat struck for the 3rd time this season. Erick Cortes headed the ball to Kat who snuck it underneath Chaz Bond for the Scarlet Raiders' first goal of the game. Rutgers-Newark's day wasn't done as Frank Lozano took on several defenders along the right flank and forced NYU into a hand ball, giving the Scarlet Raiders a penalty kick. Jean Paul Solano stepped up to the spot and drilled it into the left corner to knot the game up at two. 

With 10 minutes to go, NYU dropped to 10 men after a second yellow forced Tahsildaroglu out of the game. Despite playing down a man, the Violets did not concede a goal as the game would end in a 2-2 draw.
