Women's Soccer Stumbles Against #5 Misericordia

DALLAS, PA | The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team took an early lead over #5 Misericordia, however, it was the Cougars that walked away with a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. 

Rutgers-Newark (2-3) was held to three shots while Misericordia (3-1) tallied 15. 

The Scarlet Raiders were on the board first in the opening 12 minutes when Mariana Valencia broke free and put Rutgers-Newark ahead, 1-0. Despite being under constant pressure, the Scarlet Raiders carried their 1-0 lead into the half. 

In the second half, the Cougars cracked the code and began to find the back of the net. Just two minutes after the break, Misericordia leveled play with a goal of their own before Rutgers-Newark scored an own goal to put Misericordia in the lead. 

Late in the second Misericordia would strike twice within five minutes to pick up three points via a 4-1 scoreline. 

The Scarlet Raiders will return to action on Wednesday, September 13 when they hit the road to take on Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 pm.
