Men's Basketball Unable to Keep Up With Rowan, 95-56

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball squad suffered a 95-56 loss to New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents, Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.

Rutgers-Newark (8-8, 4-5) was held to 36% shooting from the floor while Jamir Patterson paced all Scarlet Raiders scorers with 10 points. Levi Holton and Travis Miles led the team with five boards. Rowan (12-4, 6-3) shot 44% from the floor and 40% from three-point range. Marcellus Ross led the Profs with 20 points while Jamir Spivey pulled down 9 rebounds.

The Profs and Scarlet Raiders battled back and forth for the opening 10 minutes of the game with Rowan holding a four-point lead after Pascal Dodard knocked down a jumper. Rowan was able to extend its lead via a 14-2 run over three minutes. The Scarlet Raiders, now in a large deficit, tried to chip away at the lead, but Rowan had a response for every offensive basket by the Scarlet Raiders, allowing them to take an 18-point lead into the break.

Rowan's high-powered offense continued to roll in the second half, netting 47 points, just one less than the first. Kelvin Marshall brought Rutgers-Newark within 26 with 15 minutes to play in the game after Rowan knocked down a three at the other end. Rutgers-Newark was not able to get a run going to close the gap between the two squads as Rowan would go on to take the conference home win.

The Scarlet Raiders will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 17 when they host Ramapo College.
