Women's Basketball Hot Start Not Enough To Overcome Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) to Rowan University on Saturday afternoon, 64-37.

Rutgers-Newark (2-14, 1-8) was led offensively by Ebony Odom Barnes' 12 points and 9 rebounds. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders shot 24% from the field and 54% from the charity stripe. Rowan University (8-8, 5-4) edged out the Scarlet Raiders 45-37 in the rebounding column. Katie Herlihy scored a game-high 15 points while Charlotte Carlies pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Rutgers-Newark came out strong and knocked off Rowan 14-13 in the opening stanza behind 40% shooting from the floor and 50% from behind the arc. The lead, however, would quickly disappear in the second as Rowan's offense tallied 19 points and held the Scarlet Raiders to just four points.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders' offense moved the ball well and kept pace with the Profs with 12 points. Rowan further extended its lead over Rutgers-Newark in the 4th with an 18-point showing as the Scarlet Raiders' offense cooled off and tallied seven points to end the game.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Wednesday, January 17 when they host Ramapo College at 6:00 p.m.
